Six years ago, I fell in love the music and culture from Appalachia. I so earnestly dedicated myself to learning banjo, fiddle, dulcimer, and other traditional instruments that the music became second nature. This led me to leave Osaka, Japan for Western North Carolina, where I earned a master’s degree in Appalachian Studies at Appalachian State University. After graduating, I began to enter and win first place dulcimer at various local fiddlers conventions. This album features my hybrid-Galax style, which combines both traditions of the Galax style and innovations, with other instruments such as guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, and piano, in order to represent diversity within Appalachian stringband old-time music. This is my sincere approach to a traditional music as an outsider (but with love) and I hope you’ll enjoy dulcimer on soul stirring and foot moving music.　(June, 2019)

6年前にアパラチアの音楽と文化が好きになりました。真剣にバンジョー、フィドル、ダルシマーや他の伝統楽器を学んできたため、この音楽はまるで生まれたときから慣れ親しんでいたもののようになりました。そして、地元の大阪を出て、アメリカのNorth Carolina州の西部に滞在する決意をします。プログラムとして40年以上の歴史を誇る、アパラチア州立大学のアパラチア研究科で初の外国人として修士号を2018年に所得しました。卒業後、地元の音楽フェスティバルのマウンテンダルシマーのコンテストに出場するようになり、歴史あるVirginia州のGalaxで行われているOld Fiddler's Conventionを含めた数々の地元のコンテストで優勝し始めます。このアルバムではGalaxの伝統的な奏法を元に独自に発達させたHybridなGalaxスタイルのダルシマーとギター、バンジョー、マンドリン、フィドル、そしてピアノといった他の楽器が奏でられています。このアルバムを通して、アパラチアのstringband音楽、オールドタイム音楽の多様的な側面を垣間見られるでしょう。そこには「外国人、外部者、よそ者」としてアパラチアの伝統音楽に取り組んできた私の最大限の尊敬が込められています。何よりダルシマーが奏でる「魂を揺さぶり、自然と足を動かしたくなるような音楽」をお楽しみ頂ければ幸いです。(2019年9月)
